Are You a Bucket Filler?

I admit...I have always been a bucket dipper, not a bucket filler. Translation: I'm a glass-half-empty kind of gal, a pessimist, a downer, a cynic, etc. I would love to say that I believe that all people have an inherent goodness in them, but all too often, people let us down. I do, however, believe in the innocent goodness in little children. It is our job, as adults, to nurture this goodness and to teach children to be kind, giving, and loving toward one another.

For this reason, I decided to implement the "bucket filler" behavior management/character education technique in my classroom. What is a bucket filler, you ask? Check out the book, Have You Filled a Bucket Today?, on You Tube. A bucket filler is a loving, caring person who says or does nice things that make others feel special. A bucket dipper, on the other hand, is someone who makes fun of someone else, says or does mean things, or ignores someone. I downloaded the cutest bucket filler posters from TPT, made a white envelope for each child (in place of buckets...I'm too cheap!), and I made the bucket filler slips below for my children to use to give one another compliments:

I am going to try my doggone best to be more of a filler and less of a dipper! How about you?

  1. Nature always helps a writer to learn from its elements. Nature always try to teach new lessons and a writer transform its experience into words. He can transform even silence into words. This blog taught me a lesson.หน้า เรียว
